CHAPTER

The Impact of Asteroids on the Earth

This was a demonstration of our ability to hit an asteroid and to try and deflect it. We know over the long history of recorded time we see asteroids hitting the Earth. But we've never really had a good form of defense. So this was a attempt to see how hard we'd have to hit the asteroid to make a deflection such that we could prevent something from hitting the Earth if we found something that might hit in 20 or 30 or 40 years time. And I want to bring Tommy in in a second, because there's a question about what this says about human beings, as well as what it says about asteroids.
