The theory of reality on easter island was that manna could flow between the dead and the living. When resources started to disappear, then they stopped building stone statues. But around the seventeenth century, something interesting happened. There was still a lack of resources. They stopped engaging in warfare. And i have a kind of a hot take too. I think there were so few people, less than a thousand, maybe a couple of hundred, on the island, that it wasnipossible for them, for different groups,. to dehumanize each other.
