The idea of directness is that when people learn things, it tends to be a lot more specific than we tend to expect. For instance, if you give someone a test mutation in this very specific concept, they often learn just that concept. They don't learn all the generalizations and extensions of that concept. Or if you teach someone a very specific skill, they don't magically get quite related skills that are related to this.
