The Origins of the Greek Empire
Darius was a dude who, as I mentioned several times, was a king who was a master propagandist. He was fantastic at building a structure that could outlive him and that could bear the weight of this massive multi-ethnic, multi-racial, multilingual, multicultural empire he was trying to preside over. The Greeks didn't have an empire. They had little tiny city states. So the Greeks are not one thing. There's a lot of different microcultures within the Greek world. Greece especially is a lot like the Black Hills of South Dakota where I live.
