In 19 forty nine, the great american poet ogden nash was commissioned to write a poem for each movement of the carnival of the animals. As we go through the piece, i'll also read you his poems as accompaniments. The first movement is scored for just strings and those two pianoswhat sansance is doing in this introduction is overlapping the string parts underneath that royaline tremolo in the pianos. It should sound almost like a roar reving up. Why a roar? Because this is the royal march of the lion, of course.
