Brokers used to find a counterparty. Now it no longer happens that way. The broker is just the guy who has the license. You go there and say, I want to sell 100 shares. The broker doesn't go and find anybody. It's on the exchange. Somebody else because of the exchanges popularity comes and says, listen, somebody wants to sell100 shares of this. At this price, I'm willing to buy it. So now you're right, they've gone back to being intermediaries without necessarily having the same responsibilities as the earlier did of finding out a party.
