Darius jashma halis was a journalist covering afghanistan for so many years. He says the most vivid example of what was going on was when the planes were leaving carbol airport, and you got the people climbing up on to the on to the wheels of the planes. And then those images, those herrific images of people plunging one by one to their deaths as they rushed to the airport, gripped on to the side of an aircraft and fell. "I think the world watched in horror at those images," he says.
