If somebody is kicked off the rolls, are people going for long periods of time without being able to buy food? It depends on first of all, just the process the state has already set up. And then it also just sort of depends on how quickly are you able to get it together to get that paperwork done again. In Illinois, for example, it was $3.9 million a year and that's a net cost because while the state saved some money perhaps by some people losing benefits or maybe they really weren't eligible anymore.
Millions of Americans depend on public assistance programs to help pay for food and make ends meet. But it’s not always easy for them to manage the red tape required to keep those benefits coming.
