The rail workers have been working without a contract since 2020. Negotiations fits and starts for the last two years came to ahead this summer when negotiations came to an impasse. A mediation board said that they could not break this stalemate. Then Labor Secretary Marty Walsh stepped in and pushed the two sides back to the table.
