The 2022 Disinformation Law in Turkey
In October 2022 the Turkish state passed new legislation aimed at tackling disinformation and it gave the internet regulator greater powers. It criminalizes for the first time disseminating misleading information to the public. The law also introduces even stricter government control over the social media platforms. For example they are now facing huge fines if they don't have a representative office in the country or if they refuse to comply with government requests. There's an increased risk associated with these apps tracking and storing more of our data.
