Icelandic volcano erupts again

00:00

Is It a Basaltic Eruption?

This eruption is a very deep eruption, giving us insight into a part of the earth that we don't normally see in these types of atic eruptions. In central iceland, for example, it's very, very common to see fairly shallowly stored magmas. But in this eruption, it's actually erupting directly out of the mantle. 15 kilometers below the surface. It's really wonderful that we're able to be able to tap into this region, because it's so rare to have eruptions come from here.
