The Importance of Copyright

Frederick: Over time, the importance of the collection gets more and more apparent. The photos that Library of Congress and these other organizations are uploading right now to the Flickr Commons at one point had a copyright. Some of them were taken by professional photographers, other were taken by hobbyists or newspapers. Frederick: We'll be passed away and gone. Our photos will be public domain. That's just what happens with copyright over time.
