The Implications of the 4% Increase in the Working Age Population

Two and a half million more patients living with combination of long-term conditions and major illnesses. The working age population is only going to be increasing by around 4%. That's got really big implications in terms of generating revenue from tax to pay for public services, including the NHS. Do you think this is going to need sort of cross-government approach to dealing with it? Yes, for sure. I've kind of thought this for a long time. If we can move to a situation where the kind of evidence of the kind that we've presented in this report can be used to inform those decisions, I think will be a lot better off.
