Introduction

The Valley of the Kings is an ancient burial site in Egypt's Thebes hills. Regular excavations have been undertaken in the valley since the 1820s. In 1922, Hussein Abdul Rasul and his boss, Howard Carter, discovered a pharaoh whose name had been forgotten for 3,000 years. Tutankhamun will trigger Tuttmania, a mainstay in western pop culture from the 1920s on.
