The Hunger of the North Korean People

As harvest withered in the early 1990s, farmers themselves were going hungry and began stashing some of the harvests away. Billboards went up in Pyongyang touting the new slogan, let's eat two meals a day. North Korean television ran a documentary about a man whose stomach burst it was claimed from eating too much rice. In any case, the food shortage was temporary. Agricultural officials quoted in the newspapers reported that bumper crops of rice were expected in the next harvest.
