The Effects of Salt on Blood Pressure

People who are on salt restricted diets often end up with more problems with diabetes and renal failure than people that don't. The American Heart Association has got these very strict guidelines, which is basically less than half a teaspoon of salt a day. In our body, there's a constant balance in all ourselves between the sodium and the potassium. And they have an inverse relationship. So if you increase the potassium, so you're eating your 20 bananas, you actually have a three times bigger effect on your blood pressure than you do from reducing your salt.
