The Origins of the Archetypes

There's a kind of convergence between the work of Dulos and Guatari and Jung here. I think as Richard Tarnas especially shows, Jung's conception of the archetypes develops significantly over his very long career. He tended to think of them as organizing categories of the mind as these modern inflections of platonic forms. But that were, in his earlier writings about them, he was thinking that it's still in a more Kantian way. They're sort of potentialities and constraints for becoming. And so what they're doing is pushing concepts to their limit and trying to generate new ideas.
