By the 50s, diesels began really taking over steam power. Diesel locomotive was more efficient and it was more reliable too. Modern diesel engines can tow passenger train cars that speeds up to 125 miles per hour. Siemens makes one of the most modern engines which produces 4,200 horsepower.
