The Importance of Questioning Theory
When I was working on my PhD, I spent a lot of time in London talking to people at big financial firms. There was always a distinction in my mind between what the theory said people were doing and what their actual practices indicated they were actually doing. So that's sort of the starting point it seems to me. It's a skepticism that goes back a very, very long way. And I guess I've kept up that kind of view of the world, not just in economics, but with respect to other things as well.
