William Magnussen: Corporations were intended to be institutions for the common good. The Roman Republic was on its last legs when it fell because of overreaching corporations, he says. He argues that while we want our corporations to be these tremendous vessels for commerce and agreement and cooperation we should also make sure they are fulfilling their important mission for all of society. William Magnussen is author of a new book about corporate power in American history.
