The European Commission's Directive on Interest Representation Services
The directive requires entities and individuals who provide interest representation services on behalf of foreign governments to provide some basic information. It could cover lobbying and public relations companies, in-house law-based think tanks, private research institutes, media or even civil society organisations. In a sense, it's not anything new because there is a couple of registers working in member states already. The problem here is that they regulate or they require registration differently in different member states, so that's why harmonisation is needed.
