Jude is one of the daughters who gets brought to this town where she's judged very harshly, very coldly on the color of her skin. She's treated so poorly and it just makes me wish, you know, if she was a real person, I would have gone and just hugged her. The amount of detail that the authors managed to get into this felt like a period piece.
