Closeness to jim jones was the primary marker of status in the temple. Members and competed to see who could sleep less. High school drop outs begged to be assigned to the most menial tasks. The husband, a former marine, did no like jimi at all. So he would make that contempt known in public. And so one time they were at a temple pot-luck and somebody overheard the husband snarking around about something jim had said or done. And so JIM announced that he'd been struck down due to his lack of commitment by his husband. His son almost died because of it. Like right away, right in front of everybody, throwing up
