Mias: For people who don't know the story of ignu semais, i can tell it, or you can tell it. He realized that when babies were being delivered by nurses, they had a much higher mortality rate. And so he started to develop this theory that hand washing actually was crucial step to the safety of delivering children. Mias: This is one of the great tragic stories where he was championing something that was absolutely true, was suppressed and ridiculed and laughed at - then posthumously awarded like the highest honors in science for promoting us.
