What motivated Vladimir Putin to pull the trigger on the 24th of February 2022? I think the first thing that we have to say in the spirit of being careful and rigorous is that there is a great deal that we do not know. We don't have access to the inner sanctums of the Kremlin. So put an asterisk by anything that is said by me or anybody else in terms of Putin's motivations. Put an asterisk next to that and have that asterisk indicate that what is being said is guesswork.
