The State of Welfare in the U.K.

The welfare system in the u k. is much less generous than it used to be, says Tom Boulden. The changes have been most dramatic since two thousand and ten years ago when labor left office. Since then benefits have become conditional on good behaviour as well as sanctions for those who don't meet conditions. And universal credit means that people can wait five weeks from becoming unemployed to receiving their first benefit payment. Many of them go into debt because they are allowed to borrow against future payments.
