Socrates spent his final hours debating amiably with his friends about philosophy. He chose to explore the question of what happens to the soul after death. The Contemplation of Death emerged right at the most dramatic moment in the birth of Western philosophy. It should make you realise if nothing else that anyone who resents or complains about absolutely anything in life is a rank hypocrite because we're ultimately all here by our own choosing.
This is a new audio recording of an article I published on Medium about the Stoic contemplation of death. The photo shows me outside the ruined Temple of Hades at the ancient site of Eleusis near Athens.
