The Rise and Fall of the Pythagoreans

Most scholars agree that the story of the split among the Pythagoreans into two camps does actually represent some version of a genuine historical event. So whatever happened to the Akusmatikoi who were not eating beans and that sort of thing, did they just die out? Well we're not quite sure how, but they clearly did die out,. And this almost certainly has something to do with the amazing story of the rise and fall of the Pythagorean state.
