The Backfire Effect of False Information
Nemo: It's one of those things where it's like you got to rely on double checking something before you share. A common response we have when we are presented with information that contradicts deeply held beliefs is to either run from the information and double down on it or to kind of fight back. But either way, you're kind of retrenching. And that doesn't matter if what your beliefs are or correct or not. We want to be like, oh my goodness, I can't believe you said that let's share it.
