The Differences Between Upstream Manufacturing and Existing Biologics
The main similarities with existing biologics is in what we call the upstream manufacturing. These are the extracting an active ingredient from the blood like a specific protein that you then want to make recombinantly and turn into a drug like EPIL or clotting factor. The downstream is very, is fairly different. Our drugs are life. They can die. A protein can get the nature but it's not a living organism. In each product there may be 10, 15 different species of bacteria, each of which is a different active ingredient.
