The History of eBPF

eBPF stands for extended Berkeley packet filter. What's a packet filter? Yeah, it's a great question. I quite often say that the eBPF initials don't necessarily help us understand very much about what eBPF is today. But it really reflects the history. This idea of filtering is that you've got this enormous stream of packets, but you can just look at the ones you're interested in. And then in a cloud native context, it's perhaps worth saying as well that there is only the one kernel.
