Johnson and the War on Poverty
The war on poverty was one of those domestic programmes, and its roots go back to johnson's childhood. Johnson grew up in the hill country of texas, outside of auston. During this time he got a job teaching at a segregated school that really shaped his views on poverty. He talked to me about it endlessly. And he would say that his students were so poor they came to school without breakfast. They were hungryand he could see the pain on their faces. In the end, he certainly won me over as a human being.
