The Origins of Mary Magdalene in Luke's Gospel

In 591, Pope Gregory the Great decides to throw all the anointings together. He had inherited this idea that Mary of Bethany was Mary Magdalene. It wasn't until the sixth century that it became about her being a prostitute. In Matthew, Mark and John, the anointing at Bethany inaugurates Jesus's passion narrative. Whereas in Luke's gospel, it has nothing to do with it.
