Mills was inspired to write the power lit by a book by franz newman called behemouth, about the rise of the notse state. He wanted to hilight the way in which top down power had come to totally dominate the big decisions that were made in the us. And so it was a real indictment of political science at the time, which focused too much on assuming a pluralism and democracy prevailing. According to mills, in the coming post modern epoch, the moral culture of aspirations stood up against human disinherited hopes for intelligence and freedom.
