But Why: A Podcast for Curious Kids

CHAPTER

What Does the Smoke Do to the Bees?

This is But Why, a podcast for curious kids from Vermont Public. We're going to talk all about pollinators and yes, we will get to stingers. To help me out, I paid a visit to a beekeeper who has a lot more experience and a lot more bees than I do. The smoke makes the bees think that there's a forest fire, and if there be a hive in a forest and the forest fire is coming, you need to move. So what they start doing is eating honey, they're filling up on honey in case they have to move. When they eat honey, they get more docile, so keep some calm.
