Geoffrey of Monmouth
Geoffrey of Monmouth is a difficult character in the sense that we don't know a huge amount about him but it's fair to say he divides opinion. He creates a fantasy account of how wonderful things were here before the English arrived and provides a whole series of mythological mythical kings going back to the time of the Trojans. There are certain hints that he is using earlier accounts or be it ones which were transmitted by word of mouth rather than being written down.
