The Third Dimension of Translation

I want to know as much about that ambient dimension of whatever it is I'm writing as possible, whether it's an old thousand-year-old text or a drawing that somebody did last year. Translating older work like that is fiction. It's fiction. You're making a plausible fiction and part of the plausible fiction is that we're going to think of it as fact. So it's kind of a deep translation.
