Basketball Shot Clock Rules

In 1985, basketball implemented the shot clock era where teams had at that time 45 seconds to score. The NBA shot clock is 24 seconds because they're expected to create a shot and score more quickly than college kids. There are two types of shots in basketball, free throws and field goals. Made field goals can be worth either two or three points.
