The Cost Performance Trade-Off Between Local and Tightly Coupled Storage
In a traditional data lake, you have an SSD on the other end of a PCIe bus. That's about as fast as you're going to get; it's just expensive to have. Loosely coupled is S3 and I can make HTTP calls to essentially an infinite sump of storage out there. This is very good for you when you're running your distributed compute engine. It's also going to be orders of magnitude slower. You've got a cost performance trade-off here where I can go decoupled or tightly coupled.
