Introduction
The Spanish economy had been somewhat precarious even before the economic upheavals of the First World War. Anarchism is a leftist political philosophy which dates back to the ideological divide experienced in the international working men's association during the 1860s. anarchism focuses on self-organizing groups, collectives and workers' organizations; these would appear in Catalonia during the war. Some anarchist leaders preferring to work with the Republic in the hopes of creating a more promising future while others claim that such collaboration was a direct rejection of anarchist principles.
