In cosmology, when we are trying to understand the universe as a whole, we are assuming that the universe is homogeneous and isotropic. But on smaller and smaller cosmic scales, you see these bigger imperfections in the universe. So what can we use that for? What can we say? Okay, when I look at where things are no longer uniform, where things have huge differences between where they're dense and clumped or sparse and under dense, what can I use that information to learn about the universe?
