The chinese communist party serves as both a model, in some ways, for your conceptual thinking, but also really does serve as a model for later rebel groups. A lot of rebel groups up to that point tended to save these projects until they achieved victory. The the c c p changes that strategic calculation. They decide that they are going to implement these really challenging jects during war itself. And it comes back to bite them. So there's research by mark opper which suggests that in one location in the south in china, the c cp's governance was so intense, intensely unpopular, it caused collapse in the south.
