My dad was a lapidary, which means you take these beautiful rock specimens that you collect. He taught himself metal smithing and I would sit with him and watch. Later he gave me his entire setup and all of his rocks and minerals. And so I started a business making jewelry by cutting stones and setting them in silver and copper. It's one of those cliffs came up when I was offered a chance to work in African conservation.
