For me, the binding part of Christmas is having a meal together. And I see it as a reenactment of re-sustaining the relationships to come together in this cyclical way around this time. Even if in sort of religious framework that it often accrues around or does accrue around the supposed birth of Jesus around this time and yet prior to that, it's the solstice. It's so coincident. The rebirth of the sun.
