Is the Bible a 'Hangover'?

With a lot of refugee crises and things like that, it is like we're going back to the bible to support our activities and actions. And i think sometimes i cringe when we disrespect the original intentions of f the text wore. Sometimes that's just even a practical reality of how could it be? It's a modern problem. The idea of political lig nation state is different, exactly, right? Theolises are different. So i don't know what we gain from that, other than maybe it's this hold over of treating the bible. I say, more from a progressive stand poit.
