Lauren Bacal's Life and Career
Humphrey Bogart's first movie, To Have and Have Not, was a huge hit when it opened in 1944. The word Hawks had used to define the screen persona he was creating for Bacal was Insolent. She was constantly being suspended by Warner Bros. for refusing to act in subpar movies. When they were apart, she felt like her heart actually hurt.
