The Importance of Consolation
Do you feel optimistic about America and the world? It seems like it's a very hard time to feel optimistic about anything. I sometimes think optimism is the capacity to think of the inevitable as desirable. But I don't know what's inevitable in the American culture right now. And so if I can go on writing these books, then I can project at least with the course of my life that there is a future where people will use them.
