Ted Talley was hired by Mike Medivoy to write the screenplay for Hannibal Lecter II. Gene Hackman got cold feet, because he was getting spooked by the violence of the film. Orion Pictures in turn then started to get the wobbles as well. The deal that got it funded in the first place was now falling apart.
