The Importance of Rest in Exercise

I don't think you ever really take that rest you need until you get to a point where it all becomes too much or physically you know you break down. It was like your body was saying you're kind of trying to ignore me or take me for granted so let me just flag this and give you some time to really meditate. The benefits are just as big as pushing yourself as hard when you don't really need to. For me, at least a day or two days a rest a week is so important and imperative I think for everybody. What would you say on average a good kind of exercise slash rest ratio would be?
