The Emotional Power of Marcel
Dean Obeidallah: We locked the audio play first, meaning that like everything that Marcel or any other characters say was determined and completely decided on before the animation began. And then Dean and Nick Paley, our co-writer would kind of go and write for like months at a time. They would listen to all the audio, they would call it down, they would organize it, they would edit it. So we had a ton of audio and we did end up with a screenplay, but that was after like three years of improvising.
